Solar Environmental Assessments

This paper studies th effects of different parameters on solar cell life-cycle carbon emissions. It compares polycrystalline (c-Si) and thin-film panels across the inputs; solar insolation, manufacturing energy, and %age of manufacturing energy produced by solar energy. A very interesting paper. They find that overall PV electricity generation has a CO2 emissions of ~55g CO2e/kWh. This is in comparison to 370 g CO2/kWh for PG&E.

  1. The following pdf is a report published by ren21, an international community of researchers, scientists, as well as businesspersons interested in the proliferation of alternatives energy sources and production
  2. The second attachment is a census on the end-use-by-appliance of electricity in the United States in the year 2001. Although of no direct connection to solar panels, an analysis of this chart should provide a guideline where we should look cut down on electricity consumption if we are to attempt to save money.
