In Fall of 2008, the CARES4Pomo team was joined by Tobias Schultz. Together, they explored various options for decreasing electricity costs of members of the PPN living in Lakeport, about an hour's drive east of Ukiah.Their primary recommendation involved the purchase of solar water heating equipment, with a closed-loop system to prevent system damage due to freezing. Housing retrofits were not found to be cost-efficient, as they would require large-scale and expensive reconstruction, for only marginal gains in efficiency.
